Residents of Byazhin-Across community in Kubwa, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory, were thrown into panic after suspected gunmen invaded the area, killing a vigilante officer and abducting several residents during a late-night raid.
The attack reportedly occurred around 11 p.m. on Monday in the Paze area of the community located within Bwari Area Council.
According to sources, the heavily armed men stormed the neighbourhood, firing sporadic gunshots to scare residents and force many to flee into nearby bushes.
During the chaos, a vigilante member identified as Sylvester was reportedly shot dead after stepping out of a compound where he had been sitting with other residents when the gunmen arrived.
Witnesses said the attackers moved from house to house, forcing doors open and dragging residents outside at gunpoint.

In the process, they reportedly abducted four children belonging to a pastor after invading the family’s residence and ordering the occupants to follow them.
The gunmen also kidnapped the wife of another vigilante member and her sister after storming their home. However, a one-month-old baby in the house was left behind as the attackers hurriedly fled the scene with their captives.
Another woman and a security personnel were also reportedly taken away during the raid.
Sources within the community disclosed that barely two days after the attack, suspected kidnappers struck again in the same Byazhin-Across area around Orange Farm, where they broke into several houses and abducted more residents.
The repeated attacks have heightened fear among residents of the community, which had previously been considered relatively peaceful.
Many locals are now expressing concern over the growing cases of kidnapping and insecurity across parts of Abuja, calling on security agencies to urgently intervene and restore safety in the area.
