Operatives of the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 68-year-old grandmother, Evelyn Ogenewu, along with six other individuals, in connection with a massive drug trafficking operation.
The agency also seized nearly 2 tonnes (1,956.92 kg) of suspected cannabis during coordinated raids across the state.
Among those arrested alongside Ogenewu was a 43-year-old man, Friday Iruoje, as well as five other men identified as Murtala Mohammed, Abdulkadir Idris, Ufoma Edafe, Anthony Aghati, and Emmanuel Owalu.
NDLEA State Commander, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, revealed that the operation led to the recovery of 23 kg of processed cannabis and the destruction of cannabis farms across Edo.

At locations including Yoruba Camp in Olumoye Forest, Ovia North East Local Government, and Otuo Forest in Owan East, officers discovered 563.5 kg and 103.57 kg of skunk cannabis, respectively.
Three additional farms spanning 0.506737 hectares were destroyed at Etiosa Forest in Owan West Local Government, with an estimated yield of 1,266.85 kg of cannabis. Dr. Ofoyeju emphasized that the operations were guided by credible intelligence, reflecting the NDLEA’s continued commitment to eradicating illegal cannabis cultivation and trafficking.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and assist authorities in curbing drug-related activities, adding that investigations are ongoing to bring all responsible parties to justice under the NDLEA Act.
“These operations demonstrate our relentless pursuit of drug traffickers and our commitment to a drug-free Edo,” he said.
