
A tragic family dispute in Abia State has left an elderly man dead after his son allegedly attacked him over a long-standing property conflict.
According to family members, Emmanuel Uchegbu and his son, Uchechukwu Uchegbu, had clashed repeatedly over family land.
The dispute reportedly escalated when the son attempted to convert shared land for personal use, a move his father resisted.

Over the years, the disagreements allegedly involved threats, property destruction, and physical assaults.
The final incident occurred on January 1, 2026, when Uchechukwu allegedly attacked his father with a cutlass, leaving him critically injured.
Emmanuel Uchegbu was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where he remained hospitalised until his death on January 31.
Uchechukwu was briefly arrested after the assault but released, only to be re-arrested following his father’s death.
Confirming the incident, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, said the suspect is in custody and that investigations are ongoing.
“This case is under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department. The suspect has been apprehended and remains in our custody while the investigation continues,” she said.
The incident has shocked the community, highlighting the tragic consequences of unresolved family and property disputes.
