Peter Obi Declares Intention to Contest 2027 Presidential Election -

Former Labour Party presidential candidate and ex-governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, reaffirming his ambition to lead Nigeria.

Obi made the declaration while campaigning for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate ahead of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

Addressing supporters, he emphasized that success at the grassroots level is vital to his broader political journey.

According to him, support for the ADC in the AMAC poll would significantly strengthen his plans ahead of the 2027 general election.

Obi stated that he is fully involved in the political process and aiming for the nation’s highest office, assuring supporters that his intentions would soon become even clearer.

Since aligning with the ADC, members of the Obidient movement and other supporters have continued to urge the party to present Obi as its presidential flagbearer.

However, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, has cautioned supporters against divisive rhetoric, stressing the importance of unity within the party.

Speculation has also emerged around a possible Obi–Rabiu Kwankwaso alliance on the ADC platform, particularly following Kwankwaso’s decision not to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

These developments have fueled ongoing political permutations ahead of the 2027 polls.
Meanwhile, supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have renewed calls for Obi to consider a vice-presidential role, similar to the 2019 political arrangement.

Obi, however, dismissed such suggestions, reiterating that he intends to contest the election as a presidential candidate.

The former Anambra governor also restated his long-held position that if elected president, he would serve only a single four-year term, insisting he would not remain in office beyond the constitutional limit.
