
The Enugu State Police Command has charged a 42-year-old man, Edwin Eze, before the Enugu East Magistrate Court for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl in Mburubu, Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, the incident allegedly occurred in November 2025. Eze is accused of unlawfully having carnal knowledge of the minor, an offence punishable under the Enugu State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2019.

During arraignment, the presiding magistrate, Chijioke Idu, ordered that the accused be remanded in the Enugu Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter to February 12, 2026, for further hearing.
Reacting to the development, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on child abuse, stressing that perpetrators would be made to face the full weight of the law.
She added that the administration of Governor Peter Mbah remains committed to protecting children and ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence across the state.
