Super Eagles Captain Ndidi Loses Father in Delta Road Crash

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi is in mourning after the tragic death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, who passed away following a road accident on Tuesday in Umunede, Delta State.

The retired military officer was rushed to a hospital in Agbor but was confirmed dead upon arrival.


Ndidi’s club, Besiktas, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In a statement on their official X account, the club said:
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident.

May Allah grant mercy to the deceased; we extend our condolences to our footballer Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones.”

Ndidi recently captained Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he also scored his first international goal.

During his celebration against Tunisia, he dedicated the moment to his father, referencing his admiration for former Nigeria captain Kanu Nwankwo.


Born and raised in Lagos, Ndidi often speaks about growing up with his father in the barracks, sharing a close bond that influenced both his personal life and football career.
