The Federal Government has opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme for qualified Nigerian postgraduate students.
The announcement was made on Monday through a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.
According to the PTDF, the scholarship is available to MSc and PhD candidates pursuing courses relevant to the oil and gas sector in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
Successful applicants will enjoy full sponsorship, including tuition fees, return flight tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable.

The agency explained that the programme is designed to provide beneficiaries with access to world-class education and research facilities while strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous capacity in the petroleum industry.
For PhD candidates studying in the UK, the scholarship will operate under a split-site arrangement, allowing research to be conducted between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), and selected partner universities such as Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.
PTDF noted that the scholarship is highly competitive, with selection based on academic performance, quality of research proposals, professional memberships, and relevance of study to the oil and gas sector.
MSc applicants are required to have a minimum of Second Class Lower degree, completion of the National Youth Service Corps programme, computer literacy, and five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics. PhD applicants must submit a detailed research proposal of not more than five pages.
The fund also warned that all applicants must have a verified National Identity Number (NIN), adding that multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will lead to automatic disqualification.
Interested candidates are to apply online via scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng, with the deadline set for February 27, 2026.
