Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have reversed their earlier decision to step back from the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, signaling renewed support for the process.
The lawmakers—Minority Leader Sylvanus Nwankwo, Peter Abbey (Degema), Barile Nwakoh (Khana I), and Emilia Amadi (Obio/Akpor II)—made the announcement during a live broadcast from the Assembly complex on Friday.
This comes just days after they had publicly called for dialogue and political reconciliation to resolve the ongoing crisis between the state legislature and the executive.

Speaking to reporters, Nwankwo said the decision followed persistent attacks on the Assembly by the governor and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, through media aides instead of engaging in meaningful negotiations.
“It became clear that dialogue was not being embraced,” he stated.
Nwakoh and Amadi echoed similar concerns, noting that the executive’s lack of willingness to settle differences left the impeachment as the only viable constitutional route.
The Rivers Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, had opened impeachment proceedings over allegations including unauthorized spending of public funds and the demolition of the Assembly complex.
With this reversal, the impeachment process appears to regain momentum amid rising political tensions in the state.
