Why Super Eagles Didn’t Attend AFCON 2025 Medal Ceremony — NFF Reveals

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has explained why the Super Eagles were absent from the medal ceremony after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria defeated Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Saturday to claim third place in the tournament. The bronze medal presentation was scheduled after Sunday’s final between Morocco and Senegal.

Most Nigerian players, however, had already returned to their clubs, prompting NFF President Ibrahim Gusau to collect the medals on their behalf.

“The players couldn’t wait to get their medals on Sunday. Their clubs were eager to have them return after Saturday’s game.

I have the medals with me,” Gusau said. “The same thing happened with Egypt too. If the medal ceremony was on the day of the match, they would have gotten theirs as well.”

The Super Eagles’ third-place finish has drawn praise from fans and officials, with players reportedly receiving special bonuses for their performance.
