A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has explained why he does not own any house or landed property in Abuja, saying the decision is a personal choice aimed at avoiding unnecessary stress.
The former presidential candidate made this known while speaking at a coffee hangout organised by the KayhikersClub in Abuja.
According to Obi, owning property in the nation’s capital is not a priority for him, as it would only add avoidable pressure to his life.
“I don’t have a house in Abuja, I don’t have land and I’m not preparing to have any because I don’t need it,” he said.
“The more you have all these things, the more headache you put on your head.”
Obi noted that he has lived for years without major health challenges, which he attributed to living a simple and stress-free lifestyly.

He also reflected on his time as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where he said he declined official vehicles, accommodation allowances and sitting allowances attached to the position.
Recalling the experience, Obi said he informed the Director-General that he only needed to attend meetings and did not require any official benefits.
He stressed that although such benefits were considered entitlements, he chose not to collect them.
“You can go and ask whether when Peter Obi was the chairman, did he collect anything,” he said.
He further recounted a similar experience during his tenure as Chairman of Fidelity Bank, where he was entitled to luxury vehicles such as a Mercedes-Benz or Range Rover but turned them down.
According to Obi, he believes he already has enough to meet his needs and sees no reason to accumulate excess wealth that could become a burden.
“I have enough. I don’t need to do giveaways, but what I need, I have,” he added.
