The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter, has announced an indefinite strike, citing concerns over reduced salaries for its members.
The decision follows an emergency union meeting held on Tuesday, March 10, where the union described the January and February 2026 salary payments as “amputated”, leaving lecturers unpaid or partially paid for their services.
In a communique signed by Idou Kehinde, ASUU chairperson, and Adesina Arikawe, secretary, the union warned that the strike would continue until the university management meets its demands for full and proper payment of all allowances.

The industrial action is set to begin on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, affecting lectures, tutorials, and other academic activities on campus.
Students and staff have been advised to adjust their schedules accordingly as the strike is expected to disrupt the university’s academic calendar.
UNILAG ASUU has called on the university management to address the pay discrepancies immediately, emphasizing that failure to do so could prolong the strike and further disrupt academic operations.
