The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 400-level Private and Property Law student of the University of Abuja, identified as Goodluck Monday, over the alleged rape of a 21-year-old 100-level student.
According to sources, the suspect allegedly met the victim at the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, where he introduced himself as the chairman of the school’s NELFUND committee.
The victim had reportedly approached him regarding issues related to a friend’s NELFUND application, which led to an exchange of phone numbers.
A colleague of the victim revealed that the suspect later arranged a meeting and asked her to choose a location between Giri and Gwagwalada.
Trusting his intentions, she selected Giri due to its proximity to her residence, unaware that it was the suspect’s home.
The source explained that upon arrival, the victim was persuaded to enter the house alongside the suspect and his friend. When she later attempted to leave, she was allegedly prevented from doing so.
“It was around 10 p.m., and she became frightened. He tried to reassure her by presenting his identification and claiming he meant no harm, but he refused to let her go,” the source said.
The situation reportedly escalated when the suspect made inappropriate advances, which the victim rejected. He allegedly became aggressive, physically restrained her, and carried out the assault despite her resistance.

“She cried out for help, but no one responded, even though she could hear voices around. He overpowered her and assaulted her,” the source added.
Following the incident, the suspect allegedly took her phone and instructed her to clean up before allowing her to leave.
The Law Students’ Association of Nigeria, University of Abuja chapter, confirmed it is aware of the allegation and has engaged the complainant, who has agreed to provide a formal written report to aid investigations.
Another student disclosed that the suspect was arrested in the early hours of Monday by officers from the Gwagwalada Police Division, reportedly while attempting to leave the area.
“The arrest has reduced tension on campus, especially as there are emerging claims from other individuals making similar allegations,” the student said.
In voice notes allegedly sent after the incident, the suspect denied wrongdoing, questioning the victim’s actions and suggesting the accusations were connected to efforts to undermine him. He also claimed to have offered assistance to her prior to the incident.
In a separate message to associates, he reportedly linked the allegation to his political ambitions.
Confirming the development, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, stated that the suspect is in custody and that investigations are ongoing.
