Kings Park Rangers Football Club, based in Sudbury, Suffolk, England, has announced the suspension of its next fixture as the team prepares for the funeral of Nigerian winger Saburi Adeniji.
The 26-year-old footballer, affectionately known as “Ola” or “our king,” passed away following a severe brain stem injury.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the non-league club described this as an “emotionally difficult” period for players, staff, and supporters, noting the funeral marks a week of mourning and closure.
The scheduled match against The Castlemen has been postponed, with the team set to return to play on February 21.
Kings Park Rangers also expressed gratitude to supporters and the wider football community for their solidarity since Adeniji’s passing. “Thank you for the strength, respect, and support you’ve shown.

Adeniji’s family, vhis wife and young daughter—arrived in the UK shortly before his passing.
The club highlighted his devotion as a family man and a cherished team member, adding, “He will always be a King. He will always be loved.”
Prior to his death, the club had rallied around Adeniji during his time in intensive care at Queen’s Hospital, Romford, and endorsed a GoFundMe campaign to support his family’s travel and welfare.
Funds raised will also help secure his daughter’s education.
“This is a moment for the football world to come together—players, clubs, teammates, supporters, and friends,” the club said, reflecting on the profound impact of Adeniji’s loss.
