The Taraba State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of three police officers in Donga Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Victor Mshelizah, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Jalingo.
He identified the suspects as Suleman Abdullahi, 30, and Idris Kauri, 33, both natives of Akete Village in Donga LGA.
According to the police, the arrests followed a thorough investigation into an attack that occurred at Tse Kwe Tor Damisa, where the officers were ambushed by suspected militia members.
The attackers reportedly killed the policemen and fled with their service rifles.
The police, however, confirmed that the stolen firearms have been successfully recovered, while the suspects are currently in custody.
Authorities added that they would be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
“The Command has successfully tracked and arrested some of the suspects involved in the attack.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices still at large,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Morkwap Dongshal, visited the scene of the incident as part of an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Donga and neighbouring Takum Local Government Areas.
