Troops of the 25 Brigade have successfully repelled a suspected attack by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) along the Damboa axis in Borno State.
The incident, which occurred on April 5, 2026, at about 9:35 p.m., was revealed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on X on Tuesday.
According to the report, the suspected terrorists were detected through surveillance systems advancing towards Damboa town from the Timbuktu Triangle area.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops mobilised in armoured vehicles and strategically positioned themselves along the suspected route, setting up an ambush to intercept the attackers.

The insurgents were later sighted in a forested area but were forced to retreat under intense military pressure, withdrawing back towards the Timbuktu Triangle.
Aerial surveillance assets were subsequently deployed to monitor and track the fleeing group across the area.
Follow-up operations conducted on April 6 led to the recovery of items believed to have been abandoned by the insurgents during their escape.
Security sources indicated that the disrupted attack suggests the terrorists may have suffered casualties during the encounter.
Troops have since intensified patrols and surveillance operations in the area to consolidate control and prevent any further attempts to breach security.
