
A heartbreaking fire incident in Ode-Aye, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, has claimed the lives of two young sisters, Queen Ohwo, aged six, and Everlyne Ohwo, aged four.
The tragic fire occurred at the family’s residence on Olaribigbe Street in the Zion Area, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
The victims, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ohwo Peter, were reportedly caught in the blaze that engulfed their home.
Sources within the police indicated that the children’s remains have been recovered and deposited at the Health Centre in Ode-Aye.
Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been triggered by negligence during cooking activities within the household.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the fire outbreak.

He further revealed that the Divisional Police Officer in Ode-Aye has been instructed to secure the scene, gather statements from witnesses, and work in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service to establish the origin and extent of the fire.
While expressing condolences to the bereaved family, the police urged residents to exercise extreme caution when handling fire and cooking appliances.
They emphasized the importance of not leaving cooking unattended, especially in the presence of children, and ensuring that flammable materials are kept away from open flames.
The command also advised parents and guardians to avoid leaving children alone in environments where fire or heat sources are in use.
Households were encouraged to keep basic fire safety tools such as fire extinguishers, buckets of sand, or water within reach, and to educate family members especially children on fire hazards and emergency responses.
The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to remain vigilant and safety-conscious at all times.
