A devastating road accident along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Yobe State has claimed the lives of five members of the same family, leaving a community in deep mourning.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday and involved residents from Potiskum Local Government Area.
According to reports, the victims were traveling together when the fatal crash happened on the busy highway, a route known for heavy vehicular movement.
A relative of the victims, Dahiru Musa Talba, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a Facebook post, expressing profound grief over the loss. “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. My mom has died,” he wrote, capturing the pain felt by the family.
He also revealed that three other relatives sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Damaturu, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The Yobe State Police Command also confirmed the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that five persons were pronounced dead, while others were injured.
He added that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The deceased have been identified as Hajjagana Dahiru Zayi, Ibrahim Dahiru Zayi, Muhammad Dahiru Zayi, Hauwa Dahiru Zayi, and another family member.
Residents have described the incident as heartbreaking and are calling on motorists to exercise greater caution while using the highway to help prevent further tragedies.
