
Three persons have been confirmed dead while five others were rescued after a passenger bus plunged into the Ariyo River along Amuloko Road in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Oyo State Fire Services Agency disclosed that its personnel rescued five survivors from the accident scene and recovered three bodies from the river.
The Chairman of the agency, Mr. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday in Ibadan.
According to Akinwande, the agency received a distress call about the accident on Wednesday from a resident, Mrs. Fadeke Yusuf, and immediately deployed emergency responders to the scene.

“Upon arrival, our officers discovered a Suzuki bus with registration number LEW 484 XA (Osun) carrying eight passengers, which had lost control and plunged into the river,” he said.
He explained that the five survivors were rescued alive and taken to Ona-Ara Private Hospital in the Jegede area for medical attention, while the three recovered bodies were handed over to officers from the Ogbere Divisional Police Headquarters led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim.
Akinwande attributed the accident to reckless driving and urged motorists to always exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road crashes.
He also commended the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (OYRTMA), Ona Ara Division, and the Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, Glorious Temitope, for their support during the rescue operation.
