President Bola Tinubu is under heavy fire as nationwide outrage grows following the killing of Brigadier General Uba and the abduction of about 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State, deepening concerns over the country’s worsening security crisis.
General Uba was reportedly murdered by ISWAP terrorists after being missing in the forest for several hours.
In a separate incident on Monday, unidentified armed men stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, and abducted 25 students.
The school’s principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, was also killed during the attack.
In response to the unfolding crisis, Nigerian human rights activist Omoyele Sowore condemned the Tinubu-led administration for what he described as a failure to protect citizens.
In a Facebook post, he noted that while 25 schoolgirls had been abducted in Kebbi State, the President’s public statement for the day was merely a congratulatory message to a “seasoned banker.”
Sowore added that even after a Brigadier General was reportedly killed by Boko Haram/ISWAP, President Tinubu had offered no words of reassurance, condemnation, or leadership.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, also decried the abduction of the schoolgirls. In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party said the heartbreaking incident “underscores the escalating insecurity that has become the daily reality for most Nigerians under the Tinubu-led APC government, which continues to prioritise political gamesmanship over the safety and welfare of its citizens.”
The PDP further stated that any administration that cannot uphold its fundamental duty of protecting lives and property must own up to its failures and confront the crisis head-on, rather than remain detached or divert attention from the real problems — a pattern it accused the current government of repeating.
