A suspected kidnapper, identified as Alex Kehinde, has confessed to the gruesome murder of an 80-year-old man in Delta State, after which he and his accomplice allegedly extorted ₦2 million from the victim’s son.
The confession was disclosed in a video shared by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
According to the police, the incident dates back to February 3, 2026, when the elderly victim, who had earlier contracted Kehinde for renovation work on his building, was lured to the site under false pretences.
Kehinde revealed that his accomplice currently at large proposed the plan to kidnap the victim in order to obtain money. The suspect explained that they deceived the man into coming upstairs in the building, claiming there was a plumbing issue that required his attention.
While narrating the incident, Kehinde said they forced the victim to sit on the ground and, in an attempt to stop him from raising an alarm, covered his mouth and nose with foam. The victim subsequently suffocated.

Police spokesperson, Edafe, while recounting the case, stated that the victim had earlier paid the suspect ₦200,000 for the renovation project and had been mounting pressure on him to complete the work on time.
Following the murder, the suspects reportedly stole the victim’s mobile phone and motorcycle. The phone was later sold for ₦30,000 at Ogbe-Ogonogo market after removing the SIM card, while the motorcycle was abandoned elsewhere.
In a further twist, the suspects inserted the victim’s SIM card into another phone and contacted his son, falsely claiming that his father had been kidnapped.
Unaware of the tragic reality, the victim’s son reportedly paid a ransom of ₦2 million to secure his father’s release.
Describing the incident as deeply disturbing, Edafe expressed shock over the actions of the suspects, noting the level of cruelty involved in the crime.
The police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and ensure justice is served.
