
Gunmen have stormed a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, abducting six worshippers during an early-morning service.
The incident occurred around 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday when the attackers reportedly invaded the church premises while members were praying.
The gunmen whisked away six worshippers before fleeing the scene.
The attack comes barely four days after assailants abducted a couple in Ilu-Abo community in Akure North Local Government Area of the state, further heightening concerns over the growing wave of insecurity in Ondo.
Confirming the incident, the state police spokesperson, Jimoh Abayomi, said operatives of the command immediately launched a rescue operation in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups.

According to him, one of the abducted worshippers has been rescued, while one suspect connected to the attack has been arrested and is providing useful information to assist ongoing investigations.
He added that security operations are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and bring all those responsible to justice.
The police urged residents of the area to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and actionable information that could aid the rescue efforts.
