Senator Gilbert Nnaji joins ADC

Former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications, Senator Gilbert Nnaji, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after 27 years, attributing his decision to what he described as the party’s irreversible departure from its founding principles.

In a resignation letter dated December 26, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman of Umuenwene Ward, Iji Nike, in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nnaji said the decision, though difficult, had become unavoidable.

“I respectfully inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after 27 years,” he wrote.

Reflecting on the party’s origins, the former lawmaker said the PDP was established on core democratic values such as unity, patriotism, justice, fairness, transparency, selflessness, mutual respect and resilience, and once held significant promise for Nigeria’s development.

Nnaji noted that he served the party diligently in various capacities, adding that his contributions over the years were verifiable.

“Over the years, and in various capacities, I was not only faithfully committed but also made immense contributions and added tremendous value to this once-largest party in Africa,” he stated.

However, he expressed regret that recent developments within the PDP indicated that the party had veered beyond redemption.

He disclosed that following extensive consultations with his family, associates and other notable Nigerians, he decided to seek a new political platform to advance his vision for the country.

Nnaji announced that he has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a credible and promising alternative.

“For the record, I have found in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) a veritable and promising ground with great and motivated like-minded compatriots to join forces in redirecting the ship of our Nigerian state,” he said.

He concluded by wishing the PDP and its leadership well and thanking them for their understanding.

Senator Nnaji represented the Enugu East Senatorial District in the National Assembly and remains a prominent political figure in Enugu State and beyond.
