
Samson Adamu has been appointed as the acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), marking a historic milestone for West African football.
His appointment was ratified by CAF’s executive committee in Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday, April 5th, 2026.

Adamu succeeds Veron Mosengo-Omba of the Democratic Republic of Congo, becoming the first Nigerian and indeed the first West African to occupy the top administrative position in the 69-year history of African football’s governing body.
Speaking about his appointment, Adamu expressed both excitement and commitment. “I am elated by this appointment. I am determined to serve African football with humility, integrity, and professionalism,” he told thenff.
As CAF’s new chief operating officer, Adamu aims to leave a lasting mark on African football, pledging to drive the game forward with transparency and dedication.
