
A schoolteacher, identified as Isah Sallama, has suffered the amputation of his hand following a violent attack by suspected motorcycle robbers in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night along Funkuyi Road in Buran District, according to a statement issued by Nasiru Habu Faragai of the Rano Emirate Council.
Sallama, a resident of Sarkin Bakar Rano, was reportedly attacked while attempting to assist another victim, Malam Sauwanu Hadi, who was being dispossessed of his motorcycle and mobile phone by the assailants.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attackers initially tried to shoot Sallama, but their weapon malfunctioned. They subsequently resorted to using a machete, with which they severed his hand, leaving him critically injured at the scene.

The incident was formally reported to the Emir of Rano, Muhammad Isa Umaru, by the District Head of Bunkure, Alhaji Aminu Isa Umaru.
Reacting to the development, the emir strongly condemned the attack and directed security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.
He also approved a donation of ₦100,000 to support the victim’s medical treatment and recovery.
The monarch further called on community leaders and security operatives to intensify efforts in tackling rising cases of robbery and ensuring the safety of residents in the area.
