
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the alleged kidnapping and assault of a young woman he reportedly met online.
According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Otamiri Prince, arranged a meeting with the victim under the pretense of offering her a job opportunity.
The victim reportedly honoured the invitation, unaware of the danger ahead.
Upon arrival at the agreed location, the suspect and his accomplices allegedly deceived her and transported her to Igwuruta, a community in Rivers State.
From there, she was reportedly taken to a remote area in a neighbouring community, where she was attacked and dispossessed of her valuables before being released.
The police said the case came to light after the victim filed a formal complaint on April 11, 2026. Acting swiftly, operatives launched an investigation using technology-driven tracking methods, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

Police spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, confirmed the development in an official statement, noting that the suspect had confessed during interrogation.
Items recovered from him included a mobile phone, a wig believed to belong to the victim, and other personal belongings.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has advised members of the public,particularly job seeker to exercise caution when dealing with strangers online.
He stressed the importance of verifying identities, avoiding isolated meeting locations, and informing trusted individuals before attending such meetings.
The command added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who are currently at large. The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities through designated emergency channels.
