A heavy rainstorm on Tuesday afternoon destroyed parts of the Kugbo Bus/Taxi Terminal in Abuja, causing disruption along the Abuja–Keffi Expressway.
The rain, which started around 3:30 p.m., blew off sections of the terminal’s roof and scattered debris onto the road, leading to traffic on both sides. Nearby structures, including the Nyanya pedestrian bridge, were also affected.
According to Lere Olayinka, no one was injured and no vehicles were damaged. Security officials were deployed to manage the situation, while authorities promised quick repairs.
The terminal is one of the transport projects introduced by Nyesom Wike and is expected to serve thousands of passengers daily once operational.

But beyond the official statements, this incident tells a deeper story.
This is not just about rain. This is about the quality of public projects and how easily they fail the people they are meant to serve.
A structure that is not even open to the public has already started falling apart. That should worry everyone.
This is public’ money that was used to build this terminal.
People trusted that it would be safe, strong, and ready to serve the public. Instead, a simple rainstorm exposed clear weakness.
This is how problems start, first it is a roof blown away, next time it could be something worse when people are actually inside.
It is not enough to promise repairs.
Nigerians deserve better than projects that look fine at commissioning but cannot stand basic weather conditions. Public infrastructure should not be a gamble.
There must be accountability.
Those responsible for the design, construction, and supervision of this project should be questioned. Standards must be enforced, not ignored.
Because at the end of the day, this is not just about a damaged terminal in Kugbo, it is about a pattern.
And until that pattern is broken, incidents like this will keep happening.
