Pregnant Woman Dies in Ondo as Police Arrest Illegal Clinic Owners

Tragedy struck in Ondo State after a 28-year-old pregnant woman lost her life while receiving treatment at an alleged illegal medical clinic in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area.


The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the clinic operators, identified as Kehinde Olawuyi and his wife, Eniola Olawuyi, following the incident.

According to police findings, the couple was running an unregistered health facility without the required medical qualifications.


The deceased woman, identified simply as Iyanu, was reportedly admitted to the clinic for childbirth. During the delivery process, complications arose, leading to excessive bleeding and loss of consciousness.

She was later rushed to another medical facility for emergency care but was confirmed dead despite efforts to save her.


The police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that the arrests followed a report from a concerned resident, which prompted an investigation into the clinic’s operations.

Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects were not licensed medical practitioners, confirming that the facility was operating illegally.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The police said the case would be charged to court upon completion of investigations, while urging members of the public to seek medical care only from licensed and properly regulated health facilities to avoid preventable tragedies.
