Residents of Minna, the capital of Niger State, were thrown into shock after a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator was brutally killed during a midnight attack by suspected assailants.
The victim, identified as Aliyu Vatsa, was reportedly attacked in the early hours of Monday at his residence in the T-Mama area of the city.
Neighbours said the attackers gained entry into the house by breaking a window with an iron cutter before confronting the PoS operator inside.
Sources in the neighbourhood said the victim reportedly pleaded with the attackers and even offered them money, but they allegedly refused, insisting they had come only to kill him.
During the attack, the assailants inflicted severe injuries with weapons, leaving him critically wounded. His cries for help attracted neighbours who rushed to the scene, but the attackers had already fled.

The victim was quickly taken to a nearby police station in the Tudunwada area before being rushed to the General Hospital in Minna, where he was confirmed dead.
A family member of the deceased, Ibrahim Kolo, confirmed the tragic incident and described the killing as heartbreaking. He added that the victim was buried at a Muslim cemetery in Minna later that morning.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force in Niger State, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, noting that police responded to a distress call about a suspected homicide around the Mandela area at about 3 a.m.
Abiodun said investigations revealed that the two suspects had forced their way into the house through a window using an iron cutter. During the attack, the victim sustained gunshot and machete injuries, while items including the iron cutter and a cutlass were recovered at the scene.
Authorities added that the case is under investigation, with efforts ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible for the killing.
