
The Delta State Police Command has successfully rescued two female kidnapping victims following a coordinated midnight operation that also led to the death of two suspected kidnappers.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Command disclosed that the operation was carried out under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi, as part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.
The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, revealed that the rescue mission was intelligence-driven and executed in collaboration with military personnel.
According to the police, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad stormed a suspected criminal hideout in the early hours of April 9, 2026.
The location, along the Obulu-Uku power line, was identified after reports of recent abductions in Ibusa and Enu-Ani Mega City, Ogwashi-Uku.

Upon arrival at the scene, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the operatives, leading to a fierce exchange. The security team responded swiftly, overpowering the gang and successfully rescuing the two victims unharmed.
Two members of the kidnapping syndicate sustained fatal injuries during the confrontation.
During the operation, security personnel recovered one AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition, and a total of ₦4.2 million believed to be part of ransom payments previously collected from victims.
The police added that the injured suspects were taken to a hospital, where they were later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Authorities further disclosed that a sweeping operation is ongoing in nearby bushes to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons.
Commending the operatives, CP Oyeniyi praised their bravery and professionalism, as well as the support of the military, noting that inter-agency collaboration remains crucial in tackling criminal activities.
He also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to ensuring safety across the state and urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
