
A 45-year-old man, Emereze Okoro, has been taken into police custody over the alleged killing of a resident in Igbo Imabana Village, located in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The incident reportedly occurred late Friday night around 10:30 p.m. It was brought to the attention of authorities in the early hours of April 11 by Egbe Enya, who claimed that his younger brother, Egbegi Enya, was attacked and fatally wounded with a machete.
Confirming the development on Monday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Akata, stated that officers from the Abi Division responded swiftly. They visited the scene, documented evidence, and moved the victim’s body to the Eja Memorial Joint Hospital Mortuary in Itigidi.

According to Akata, the suspect has since been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) as inquiries continue. He added that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend any other individuals who may have been involved in the crime.
In a related development, police in Ogun State recently arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged murder and attempted secret burial of a 38-year-old man in Akute, Ifo Local Government Area. The victim, identified as Stanley Okirie, was reportedly attacked with a pestle. Authorities intervened as family members allegedly attempted to bury the body, leading to the arrest of the suspects. Investigations into the case are still ongoing.
