Police Detain Suspect Over Death of Singer Destiny Boy -

The Ogun State Police Command has detained a suspect in connection with the death of popular Nigerian singer, Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

Authorities confirmed that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a detailed investigation.

Detectives have begun a full probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of the 22-year-old artiste, while the suspect remains in custody.

News of Destiny Boy’s death emerged on Sunday after videos showing his lifeless body being transported to a mortuary circulated widely on social media, sparking grief and speculation among fans.

One of the clips depicted the singer lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his ears and nostrils.

In response to the circulating rumours, an associate of the late singer released a separate video, stating that Destiny Boy had been battling an undisclosed health condition before his death.

I’m making this video so people won’t spread false stories about Destiny Boy’s death,” the associate said. “He had been dealing with a health problem. We did our best, but sadly, he didn’t survive.

Destiny Boy began his music career at a young age and became known for blending Fuji music with contemporary sounds.

He gained recognition in 2019 with a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If, which went viral online. He also recorded covers of tracks by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.

Earlier in his career, he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji star Pasuma at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos.

In his personal life, Destiny Boy welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide, in November 2024.
