
The police in Bayelsa State have arrested a pastor and his wife over allegations of sexual abuse involving a 13-year-old girl in Yenagoa.
The suspects were reportedly taken into custody following a complaint lodged at the Ekeki Police Division. Sources disclosed that the arrest took place during a church service, where the pastor was said to have initially fled through a back exit before later surrendering himself to authorities after his wife had been detained.
According to reports, the teenager, who is said to be related to the pastor’s wife, alleged that the abuse occurred on multiple occasions between November 2025 and early 2026.
The incidents were said to have taken place both within the church premises and at the residence of the cleric.
The matter came to light after the minor reportedly informed her mother of the alleged abuse.

The mother subsequently confronted the couple before escalating the case to the police. Advocacy groups against gender-based violence were also said to have been contacted to ensure proper handling of the case.
When contacted, the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State confirmed the development, stating that the case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Command for discreet investigation and appropriate legal action.
Police authorities assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing and that anyone found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
