PDP Slams Aiyedatiwa Over Alleged Convoy Killing of Teenager

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the death of a young man allegedly struck by his convoy.

The party stated that the victim, identified as Good Emiju, was knocked down by vehicles in the governor’s convoy at Oka-Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly occurred during Governor Aiyedatiwa’s thank-you tour of communities in the council area.

Criticising the governor’s silence over the incident, the party, in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande Ajayi, expressed concern over what it described as the hurried burial of the deceased.

The party called for a transparent explanation from the state government, with Ajayi stating that the continued silence was unacceptable, insensitive, and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and his family.

He said credible accounts indicated that the victim was initially rushed to the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko, where medical personnel allegedly could not adequately manage the situation due to the poor state of the facility.

The victim was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was pronounced dead. He added that the subsequent burial of the young man raised further concerns.

“To date, no official statement has been issued to inform the general public, clarify the facts surrounding the incident, or explain the circumstances under which a citizen lost his life in connection with a government convoy,” the statement said.

However, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has distanced himself from the incident, insisting that his convoy was not involved.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, the governor said it was necessary to categorically clarify that the governor’s convoy was neither responsible for nor involved in any accident on that day, or at any time since the commencement of the Thank-You Tour across the 18 local government areas of the state.
