Residents of Gombe State were thrown into panic on Tuesday after a truck loaded with sand crashed into the main gate of the Government House, causing significant damage to the structure.
The incident occurred around 12:55 p.m. at the Government House complex, where ongoing renovation works are being carried out under the administration of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya.
The affected gate was reportedly yet to be officially commissioned.
Eyewitnesses said the truck lost control before veering off the road and slamming into the newly installed gate.
“I was standing across the road when I saw the truck approaching at speed. Suddenly, the driver lost control and rammed into the gate,” a trader, Musa Abdullahi, recounted.
Another witness, commercial motorcyclist Ibrahim Sadiq, noted that the situation could have turned tragic if pedestrians had been nearby.

A security aide at the scene, who preferred anonymity, confirmed that the impact caused visible structural damage to the gate, bending parts of the installation.
The truck is reportedly linked to Tricata Nigeria Ltd., although its registration details were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
Confirming the incident, the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Government House, Ismaila Misilli, stated that no fatalities were recorded.
“We are grateful that there was no loss of life. The driver sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention,” he said.
The Government House is currently undergoing extensive renovation as part of the state government’s infrastructure upgrade projects.
