Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, has revealed that he has received threats due to his role in implementing Nigeria’s tax reforms.
He explained that the resistance comes from entrenched interests benefiting from loopholes and inefficiencies in the current tax system.
Oyedele stressed that the reforms aim to simplify tax administration, widen the tax net, ensure fairness, and increase government revenue, without unduly burdening ordinary citizens or small businesses.
He highlighted Nigeria’s low tax-to-GDP ratio as a major barrier to national development, limiting funds for infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social services.
