Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has raised concerns over reports regarding the detention of former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, urging the authorities to clearly explain the circumstances surrounding the action and to ensure strict adherence to due process.

In a statement released on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, the Igbo socio-cultural group said Nigerians are entitled to full disclosure on the reasons for Dr Ngige’s continued detention in the interest of transparency, justice and respect for the rule of law.

The organisation stressed the need for clarity, noting that both Ndigbo and Nigerians at large deserve to understand the basis for the detention and the factors that necessitated it.

While reiterating that it does not support corruption in any form, Ohanaeze maintained that it strongly opposes persecution, selective application of justice or any action that may suggest a violation of due process.

According to the statement, the group has consistently stood for accountability and good governance, but remains firmly against any practice that could undermine fairness or justice.

Consequently, Ohanaeze called for Dr Ngige to be granted bail in line with established legal procedures, adding that it is prepared to act as surety if required. Dr Chukwu stated that the organisation is willing to provide all necessary assurances, including ensuring his availability whenever demanded by the appropriate authorities.

The group also appealed to relevant agencies to conduct their duties with professionalism and fairness, warning that disregard for constitutional safeguards could weaken public trust in the justice system.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide reaffirmed its commitment to justice, equity and the rule of law, describing these principles as vital to national unity and democratic stability, and restated its aspiration for an egalitarian society that serves the interests of all Nigerians.
