Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about the surprising challenges she faced at the very beginning of her acting journey.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, the actress revealed that her biggest early hurdle wasn’t competition or auditions — it was outrageous movie scripts.
According to her, one of the first scripts she ever received required her to act a scene involving a dog.
She said she turned it down immediately because she knew accepting such a role as her debut would damage her image and define how people saw her.
In her words:
“Imagine my first ever movie, they wanted me to sleep with a dog. It didn’t make sense. Whatever you start with is what people remember you for, and I didn’t want to be tagged as that actress.”
Nkechi added that after she rejected the script, several other young actresses rushed to pick it up — but none of them became known in the industry.
Her turning point came shortly after leaving that production venue. She met veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who saw potential in her and decided to work with her.
Through him, she got her official debut role in ‘Through The Fire,’ a film by Emem Isong — the project that introduced her to Nollywood audiences.
