Following the rescue, the baby was handed over to Anambra Police B Division.
Under the directive of Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, the child was then admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Mother and Child Department of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka for proper care.
Residents expressed astonishment at the incident, questioning why someone would abandon a newborn, but praised the swift action of the nurse and good Samaritans who ensured the baby’s safety.
