Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State have intercepted 125 bags of dried cannabis, weighing a total of 1,378 kilograms, during a raid in the state.
The Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that one suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure.
According to him, the operation was carried out by a team of NDLEA officers who raided a warehouse in Igbanke community, located in Orhionmwon Local Government Area. The officers recovered 125 bags of dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis from the location.
Ofoyeju identified the suspect as 37-year-old Roland Owie, a native of the Igbanke community, who was apprehended during the operation.
He described the raid as a significant breakthrough in the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.
“This successful operation is a testament to our relentless pursuit of drug cartels and our strategic focus on supply suppression,” he said.
“The seizure of 1,378 kilograms of cannabis in a single operation delivers a major blow to drug distribution networks and prevents these harmful substances from reaching our streets, schools, and communities.”

The NDLEA commander further emphasised that cutting off drug supply remains a key component of the agency’s strategy, alongside ongoing advocacy and rehabilitation initiatives.
“Every kilogram seized disrupts the criminal economy, weakens trafficking syndicates, and contributes to a safer society,” he added.
Ofoyeju reiterated that Edo State is not a safe haven for illicit drug activities, warning traffickers that the agency maintains zero tolerance and strong operational capacity to tackle drug-related crimes.
He also commended the professionalism of NDLEA personnel involved in the operation and urged members of the public to support the agency with credible information.
The commander noted that the raid was based on actionable intelligence, underscoring the agency’s commitment to drug supply suppression.
This development comes days after the NDLEA announced the seizure of illicit drugs worth N1.8 billion in Edo State within the first quarter of the year.
