
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old native doctor over the alleged ritual killing of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The suspect, identified as Chibunna Nwafor, popularly known as “Offonwadile,” was apprehended on February 11, 2026, at his hideout in Umueri community, Anambra East LGA, following months of intelligence gathering and community collaboration.
The nurse was reportedly murdered in July 2025 after she was lured to a residence under the pretext of providing medical assistance.
Investigations revealed that her body was allegedly mutilated, with parts said to have been taken to a shrine linked to the suspect.

An accomplice had earlier been arrested shortly after the incident, while the native doctor, believed to be a prime suspect, fled the area.
His arrest marks a major breakthrough in the case that had sparked outrage and fear within the community.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development, stating that the suspect has been transferred to a higher investigative formation for discreet proceedings.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended residents for their timely information and assured that all those involved in the crime would be brought to justice.
The police said investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and identify other possible accomplices.
