
Several passengers were injured on Monday after a train travelling along the Abuja–Kaduna route derailed following a collision near Asham.
The incident was confirmed by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa, who said the accident occurred after the train encountered an obstruction on the track, leading to a derailment.
According to him, although a number of passengers sustained injuries during the accident, no fatalities had been recorded as of the time the report was filed.
He explained that the injured passengers were quickly evacuated and transported back to the Idu Railway Station where they received medical attention.

Opeifa noted that officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision and the obstruction that caused the derailment.
“It is confirmed that our Abuja–Kaduna train had an incident near Asham after encountering an obstruction on the track. Some passengers were injured, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause,” he said.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation assured the public that more details would be provided as the investigation continues and measures would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
