
Angry mob
A tragic mob action has claimed the life of a yet-to-be-identified man in Magbon Village, along the Powerline area in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, following allegations of motorcycle theft.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Friday when a group of about five men reportedly chased the victim on a motorcycle from Ola Imam Bus Stop along Igbo-Olomu Road.
The pursuit ended near a bush where he was overpowered.
Sources revealed that the suspects attacked the man with sticks and inflicted injuries during the assault.
As the situation escalated, the attackers allegedly poured petrol on him and set him on fire before fleeing the scene.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the victim was still alive when police officers arrived and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

“The suspects accused him of stealing a motorcycle. Three individuals have been arrested and are currently in custody at the Ogijo Police Division, while others involved in the act are still on the run,” the source said, adding that residents are demanding justice and an end to such incidents.
Another resident, identified simply as Adeoye, noted that the intervention of bystanders prevented the victim from dying at the scene. He also called for a thorough investigation and proper documentation of witness statements.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said officers responded swiftly to the distress call.
“On March 20, 2026, police intervened in a mob attack in Elepete, Ogijo. The victim was rescued in critical condition but later died in the hospital.
Three suspects have been arrested, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution,” he stated.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects and ensure justice is served.
