
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) have successfully thwarted a bandits’ attack in Goniri, Yobe State, killing over 20 insurgents and recovering a large cache of weapons and ammunition. The operation was conducted under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the JTF North East, stated that surveillance assets detected the insurgents advancing simultaneously from Goniri village and the Ngamdu junction, attempting to encircle the military location.
Responding with superior firepower and tactical maneuvers, troops neutralized over 20 insurgents, including a senior commander identified as Abu Yusu, the Munzir of Dursula.
Several insurgents’ bodies were recovered, along with weapons and equipment abandoned during their retreat. Confiscated items included machine guns, AK-47 rifles, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), bombs, and assorted ammunition.

Follow-up clearance operations in the Gwaigomari area within the Timbuktu Triangle uncovered additional insurgent bodies during patrols that extended into the early hours of March 11, 2026.
Troops injured during the engagement were promptly evacuated for medical attention and are currently in stable condition.
The operation marks another success in ongoing efforts by the military to secure Yobe State and neutralize threats posed by insurgents in the region.
