“Several soldiers hurt as terrorists attack troops rescuing Kebbi schoolgirls.”
The attack happened only 24 hours after the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, ordered troops under Operation Fasan Yamma to go “all out” against the bandits who kidnapped students of Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.
Shaibu had told the soldiers that they must keep fighting day and night until the missing children are found.
Commanders were instructed to use intelligence for precise, intelligence-driven operations. They were told, “When you receive information, act professionally and decisively. This is not just about our image; it is about doing our job properly.”
Troops have been ordered to continue 24-hour operations until all abducted students are safely rescued and returned to their families.
Soldiers mobilized for a rescue mission were ambushed by terrorists, leaving several injured. Video footage shows the soldiers lying helplessly, with no immediate medical attention available.
One of the victims, speaking in Hausa, said: “Musa has a bullet lodged in his leg. His condition is very bad.”
The troops’ vehicle was heavily damaged, riddled with bullet holes during the attack.
