
Operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol have arrested a man after discovering suspected human body parts concealed in passengers’ luggage along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Oyo State.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan on Sunday. He said the discovery was made during a routine stop-and-search operation near Guru Maharaji Village.
According to the police, a red cloth containing bones and other items believed to be parts of a human corpse was recovered from a commercial vehicle travelling from Lagos to Osogbo. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, was immediately apprehended.
Osifeso noted that investigations have commenced to determine the source and intended use of the recovered items, adding that the probe has been extended beyond Oyo State to identify other individuals connected to the case. He said the suspect would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.

The police command assured residents that the matter is being handled with professionalism and diligence, reiterating its commitment to bringing all offenders to justice. Members of the public were also urged to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to help maintain peace and security in the state.
In a related development, the police also confirmed a suspected murder at a construction site in the Iyana-Ajia area of Ibadan, reported at the Akanran Police Division. Investigations revealed that a disagreement between two casual workers escalated into violence.
Osifeso said a 22-year-old man, Lawal Ibrahim, allegedly stabbed his colleague, Raimi Ige, 18, with a broken bottle during the altercation. The victim sustained fatal injuries and died while being taken to the hospital. The suspect has been arrested, while the deceased’s body was deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Due to the severity of the offence, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section for further investigation, after which the suspect will be charged in court.
The police also reminded residents that emergencies can be reported through the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free lines.
