Experienced England defender Kyle Walker has announced his retirement from international football with immediate effect, bringing an end to a distinguished 14-year career with the Three Lions.
The 35-year-old Burnley full-back earned 96 caps for England and represented the country in five major tournaments, including the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups and the European Championships in 2016, 2021, and 2024.
Walker made his England debut in November 2011 against Spain and went on to become a regular figure in the national team setup.
He played a key role under former manager Gareth Southgate, helping England reach the 2018 World Cup semi-final and back-to-back European Championship finals in 2021 and 2024.
Reflecting on his international career, Walker described it as a “whirlwind journey”, saying he was proud of what he achieved representing his country.

“I am sad to be making this decision, but I’m also very proud of what I’ve achieved with England. Today is the time that comes to an end,” he said.
Walker also expressed pride in contributing to the transformation of England’s football culture and the team’s renewed competitiveness on the international stage.
During his time with the national team, Walker scored one international goal, which came against Ukraine in September 2023.
Despite narrowly missing the milestone of 100 caps, Walker leaves the England team with a reputation as one of the country’s most consistent and reliable right-backs, having been trusted by several national team managers throughout his career.
His retirement signals the end of an era for England’s defence, after more than a decade of service at the highest level of international football.
