Tragedy struck at Lafia Hotel in Ilorin last Thursday night as a man died after being trapped in a hotel room.
The incident occurred around 11:38 pm at the hotel located along Coca-Cola Road.
The building, which offers short-let apartments, was reportedly engulfed in flames following a power surge.
Preliminary reports indicate that the man, whose identity has not been confirmed, was staying in the room of a female occupant engaged in commercial sex.
The woman had stepped out to buy some items and locked the man inside, in line with hotel rules prohibiting men from staying overnight in rooms booked by female clients.

“The fire spread quickly across the building, which has two flats with three bedrooms each,” said Hassan Adekunle, spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Service.
“Firefighters arrived promptly and brought the fire under control by 11:51 pm.”
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have launched an investigation, but all the sex workers have reportedly abandoned the facility following the incident.
The tragedy has raised concerns over safety measures in short-let accommodations, particularly in facilities where rules restrict access and occupancy.
