No fewer than 160 worshippers of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) are currently being held hostage by kidnappers across Kaduna and Kogi states, raising fresh alarm over the worsening security situation in parts of the country.
Church authorities disclosed that the abducted worshippers are from several ECWA districts, with about 100 members taken from communities in southern Kaduna, while others were seized in parts of Kogi State.
Many of the abductions reportedly occurred during attacks on rural communities and church gatherings, leaving families devastated and struggling to meet heavy ransom demands.
Describing the situation as distressing and unacceptable, ECWA leaders condemned the repeated targeting of worshippers and rural dwellers, warning that such attacks threaten citizens’ fundamental rights to life, safety and freedom of worship.

The Church noted that pastors, church workers and members have continued to suffer killings, kidnappings and displacement in various states.
While acknowledging efforts by security agencies, the Church urged the Federal and State Governments to adopt proactive, intelligence-driven measures, ensure faster response to threats, and provide better protection for vulnerable communities and places of worship.
ECWA also called on community leaders and residents to remain united and vigilant, as prayers and efforts continue for the safe release of all abducted worshippers.
