Residents of Kebbi State were shocked on Monday, March 17, 2026, when expired rice was allegedly distributed by the Deputy Governor as part of Ramadan palliatives.
The rice, meant to support vulnerable families during the holy month, reportedly had expired packaging, raising serious health and safety concerns.
Eyewitnesses said the distribution took place in multiple communities, where beneficiaries immediately noticed the rice was discolored, emitted a strange odor, and appeared old.
Upon discovering the spoilage, some residents reportedly refused to accept the rice, while others returned it to the distribution points in protest, demanding fresh supplies.

The controversy has sparked heated discussions on social media, with many Nigerians questioning the oversight of public welfare programs.
