Kcee Felt Pressured When Presh Proposed a Solo Path

Award-winning singer Kcee reveals the truth behind KC Presh’s breakup, saying it wasn’t conflict but differing musical styles that led to their split.

Kcee, formerly one half of the popular hip-hop duo KC Presh, has opened up about the reasons behind their breakup, revealing that he felt significant pressure when Presh proposed that they pursue solo careers.

In an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Kcee explained that their split wasn’t caused by any personal conflict. Rather, it was a natural outcome of their different musical styles and creative visions.

“KC Presh’s breakup wasn’t due to any disagreement. We didn’t have any issue. It wasn’t because my brother [E-Money] wanted to open a record label. What happened was that we were exploring different sounds. Presh leaned more towards R&B, while I focus on Afropop,” Kcee said.

He admitted that he initially felt pressured by the suggestion because he considered Presh the better singer. “The idea to do solo projects came from him. I accepted, but I was under pressure because he has a better voice than me. People were praising him, saying he was the one holding the group together, so he was very confident,” Kcee revealed.

Despite this, Kcee said he was aware of his own abilities and contributions. “The majority of our fans supported him because they felt he was the better singer. But they don’t see the work behind the scenes. I was doing most of the work behind the scenes,” he added.

Kcee credited the split for his subsequent success, noting that going solo pushed him to work harder and produce hit songs. He also disclosed that he later reached out to Presh to join his record label, 5ive Music, but Presh declined, reportedly still upset about how their breakup unfolded.

KC Presh first rose to fame after winning the Star Quest talent show in 2002. The duo went on to release three albums together before going their separate ways in the 2010s.
